     01-02-2012     To get into the fort, one had to walk along the bricks on the side of the fort. For the most part, the fort was surrounded by water, but some rather solid marshes nearby allowed easy access.

     01-02-2012     So the whole time we were here, I couldn\'t help but feel like this fort was a scene from The Count of Monte Cristo. Old ruins surrounded by beautiful water and clear skies. The arrival by canoes probably fueled this feeling as well.


     01-02-2012     More of the Fort from the top down. Apparently this fort was built by P.G.T. Beauregard back in the 1850\'s, but was never garrisoned for use during the Civil War. According to Wikipedia, highschool kids used to hang out here during the 1940\'s when the fort wasn\'t completely surrounded by water.
